Imagine having a bivvy light that you can recharge but which also doubles up as a power bank for your portable devices… erm, well that’s what this is. The LMP10AH4 Waterproof Rechargeable Lamp And Power Bank, to give it its full title, features a USB2 input for charging with any similar lead, the likes of which are about these days, as well as a USB outlet for passing on that charge to phones and the like while in transit. The light itself has four settings, the dimmest of which is ideal for ambient bivvy light, whereas the strongest will help you read even the smallest print in a book. It holds a significant charge once fully juiced up and this lasts a very long time, still having enough to fully charge an iPhone even after a few days on the bank.

The Easy Fuel is exactly that, a stove that is easy to use and designed to cope in even the most gruelling of environments. Built to be sturdy, durable and reliable, it comes equipped with a Piezo igniter so all you have to do is connect the gas canister and you’re cooking on gas, literally. Supplied in a stuff sack, this is a compact piece of equipment that will come into its own even in low temperatures, when other stoves can be a nightmare to get working. Over all, this is a fantastic piece of kit that will continue to function for many a year to come, even with frequent use.

There is no shortage of good hooks available to the modern carp angler and in these, Prologic has raised its own bar significantly. With super-sharp points throughout the range, there are a host of patterns to cover all fishing situations. My only slight reservation here is that they carry numbers for their descriptions, such as XC2, XC5 and XC7, which don’t immediately tell you what they’re designed to be used for. That aside, most pop-up and bottom-bait presentations are more than catered for and each pattern looks relevant.

The last metre is the most important one when carp fishing. If anything there lets you down it can be devastating. We spend so much money on rods, reels, bivvies and barrows but that doesn’t catch you fish. The hook and the end-game setup are the crucial elements to your success and Prologic has released a wide range of terminal products that will help you put more carp on the bank.

The full name for these is Last Meter Safety Clip QC Link Hollow Leaders, which is a bit of a mouthful, but explains what they are. There are different leader versions available and one of two other variations but this is the one I’ve had a play with. The leader sinks slowly, settling nicely over bottom debris, and the lead clips work well. The pack also includes anti-tangle sleeves for the rig and even small link loops to attach the end of the rig.

We run our three, six and 12-months-on features in these pages but these scales have accompanied me on the majority of trips for over five years. If there is a better set of dial scales on the market then I haven’t seen them. In fact, take it from me, there isn’t! Okay, some may prefer personalised versions, but the scales themselves remain the same. Mine are 60lb x 1oz versions, more than ample for any carp that I am ever likely to encounter, in the UK at least, and they remain super-accurate.

I’ve had two sets of Reubens over the years, having left a set on the car park at Linear Fisheries some time back, but the replacements (which I had stamped with the TC logo at the time) have been my scales of choice ever since. They’re the classic dial scales, mine reading from 0 to 60lb (if only) in 1oz increments, so are extremely easy to read. They did have a small light in them originally (a few were made at the time) but that has long since given up the ghost. However, the newer versions have a more discreet and reliable light in them, making them easy to read at night.

I’m sure any angler would agree that when it comes to weighing your prize catch you want a reliable set of scales to ensure the highest level of accuracy. I have used Reuben scales for as long as I can remember. Starting off with the entry-level Flyweight Mk2 scales, I have worked my way up to the Specimen Hunter Classic. Brought back into production in 2011, this model boasts the original dial configuration and beta light pointer illumination of the 1988 model.
