We run our three, six and 12-months-on features in these pages but these scales have accompanied me on the majority of trips for over five years.

If there is a better set of dial scales on the market then I haven’t seen them. In fact, take it from me, there isn’t! Okay, some may prefer personalised versions, but the scales themselves remain the same.

Mine are 60lb x 1oz versions, more than ample for any carp that I am ever likely to encounter, in the UK at least, and they remain super-accurate. I’ve had them rebalanced once, which is advisable over this period of time with any dial scale, and they have stayed true ever since.

Mine are some that we had made for the magazine many moons ago, so those available from Reuben Heaton do not carry the Total Carp logo, but the scales are essentially the same as those available today.

There are several of the Specimen Hunter available, including a whopping 240lb x 4oz, and they are all offered in metric or imperial versions too.
