Marc Coulson’s verdict... Upgrade your trusty Tournaments brilliantly!

I’ve had Daiwa Tournament reels for years and ‘suffered’ the traditional front-drag system where going from locked up to clutch took a seemingly endless number of turns. Although this is how all reels once were (cue the shocked gasps from the younger carpers), modern technology has allowed for much quicker drag systems that have often been a revelation.

So, when I upgraded my Tournaments to the black versions last year, I decided I wanted a piece of the fast-drag action and a visit to Johnson Ross presented me with a chance to do so.

These simple spool caps replace those that come with the reels and, with the addition of the supplied washers, transform the drag itself. I got the boys at the shop to fit mine, partly because they’ve done it a hundred times and partly because I’m useless at anything mechanical. However, I’m told it is, in fact, pretty simple. If you’ve got Daiwa Tournament reels (and many other Daiwa models) and fancy a quick-drag conversion, you should definitely check these out. (MC)
