Shimano Sport Camera

Although Shimano is keen to avoid comparisons with GoPro, the new Sport Camera is an obvious competitor for the market-leading video camera, which I was told recently was now the biggest-selling camera worldwide.

If Shimano can take some of this market away from GoPro I imagine they’ll be very happy indeed. More importantly, from what I have seen so far, it certainly could do so.

Much more compact than a GoPro (sorry, I did it again) the Shimano camera was first launched for the cycling market. However, with the ever-increasing popularity among carp anglers of self-shot film on such platforms as YouTube and Facebook, it fits the bill perfectly.

The quality of the footage is exceptional, with full 1,080P HD capability and the three filming modes are easily switched, each making use of the wide 135 or 180-degree viewing angle.

Storage is via a micro SD card rather than internal hard drive so you’re never going to run out of memory, and power comes via a rechargeable l-ion battery, which offers two hours continual use on a four-hour charge.

Finally, the camera itself comes supplied with two mount adaptors, one for helmets and one universal and, we couldn’t help notice that the fitting works with all of the GoPro accessories as well. (MC)
