Ridgemonkey Samurai Throwing Stick

Marc Coulson’s verdict... Lightweight, easy to use and incredibly accurate. 4/5

Let’s get one thing out of the way here, the radical shape of this throwing stick is actually the wrong way round. Yes, the teardrop profile is an aerodynamic one, but it needs to be the other way round. Think aeroplane wings, aero bike frames and suchlike. It’s all to do with drag and it requires (contrary to what many other magazines have wrongly stated in their reviews) that the thick end actually hits the air first, not the thin end. Now, let’s also quantify that in terms of the carp angler using it. You may think that being the wrong way round might hinder this stick’s performance. It doesn’t, not at the short-burst speeds that we use a stick for, so do not take it as a negative, more of an irrelevance.

That aside, as a throwing stick it performs brilliantly and ticks every box for me. The carbon design is lightweight and has allowed me to use it for long periods without muscle fatigue in my arm. The front loading slot also makes life incredibly easy and lets me focus on my spot at all times while loading and sticking out. It’s so efficient, in fact, that I’ve had as many as three individual baits airborne at one time from three separate ‘throws’, it really is that quick.

Price-wise, it compares pretty favourably with other carbon sticks. There are some out there that are incredibly cheap but I wonder how much carbon is actually used in their construction. This is a proper carbon stick that is easy to use and which I’m in no rush to send back! (MC)
