Kodex Genomic Mgp Wide Gape Hooks

With the trend for sharpening hooks, we often argue in the office as to whether, when you’re paying £3 to £5 a packet, you sould have to sharpen them.

Well the arrival of the new Kodex Genomic Wide Gape hooks settled our debate; no they do not need sharpening – only after you have banked several fish, of course. With a Micro-Ground finish and chemically edged process that each hook has been subjected to, the ever so slightly leaning point is super-fine, incredibly sharp and wow does it take hold quickly – and that’s just in my hand.

I mentioned it slightly leans as opposed to it being a fully fledged beaked point that can alter the hooking potential in certain rig presentations. However, the leaning effect also helps the hook-hold remain strong.

Forged from the super-strong 130-grade Hi-Carbon, the wide-gape pattern features a 15-degree inturned eye, resulting in the hook turning on the take far more aggressively without the need for a hook aligner or shrink tubing. Of course, the addition of these will exaggerate the turn even more. Available in microbarbed and barbless varieties, the Wide Gapes can be found in sizes 4, 6, 8 and 10, so you can find the hook to suit your preferred rig for a wide array of fishing scenarios. (DM)
