Certain items of tackle gain a cult-like following within angling and the original Terry Hearn rods did exactly that. When Terry rejoined ESP it brought much speculation and hope that there would be some long-awaited collaborations coming our way and, after extensive field testing and being tailored and tweaked to his exact and demanding standards, ESP is proud to launch new versions of a much-loved old favourite. The two rods are the ESP Terry Hearn Classic and the ESP Terry Hearn Distance, both in 12ft 9in lengths. For all you purists out there, the Terry Hearn Classic is the model designed for you.

When we heard that the Sleep Easy came with a 28-stone weight limit, we shrugged our shoulders and said: “That will be heavy then. ”Well, by utilising an exclusive aircraft lightweight frame, not only is strength imperative but at 11. 5kg it’s not as heavy as we first thought. The Prestige-manufactured bedchair also boasts an ingenious anti-sag support system and much-needed flat head section, ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep for anglers of all sizes.

This has to be one of the most complete luggage systems ever, with a huge combination of modular combinations available. Each piece is designed with one or more of the others in mind, with several smaller items combining with the larger ones to create the ultimate luggage ‘system’. Total Carp is the first magazine to receive the entire set and we’ve been hugely impressed right from the get-go. As you’d expect from Aqua, quality is in abundance, with the trusted Cordura featuring throughout.

I’ve long been a massive fan of the Tournament and have had a set of the originals from however long ago. This year Daiwa has introduced the very same reel but in black, in keeping with the current trend for the stealthy look. If ninjas made a carp reel, this would be it. It looks absolutely superb and, if ever the word carpy really was relevant to an item of tackle then the Tournament Black would claim it hands down.

The Chunk range carp wear met with huge approval when launched in late 2014 and that initial range had winter in mind. I had several items from the ranges and was absolutely smitten. This summer sees the next wave of garments, this time combining summer fishing wear with a fashionable edge. The logo itself has changed and, dare I say it, has the feel of something like Superdry.

There have been fishfinders before that you can cast out, but this one ticks a massive box in that it syncs with your iPhone, iPad or certain Android devices and gives you a live view on your screen. It’s extremely simple to use, just attach the ball to your line and cast it out. The device feeds back to the phone so that you get a fishfinder view on the phone. You’ll need to download the app first, but we all know how easy that is.
