Daiwa Tournament Ts5000 Tb Reel

I’ve long been a massive fan of the Tournament and have had a set of the originals from however long ago. This year Daiwa has introduced the very same reel but in black, in keeping with the current trend for the stealthy look. If ninjas made a carp reel, this would be it.

It looks absolutely superb and, if ever the word carpy really was relevant to an item of tackle then the Tournament Black would claim it hands down. The really carpy brigade will appreciate the dark appearance and would probably relish having such a stealthy reel with foldable handles.

As with the original, it’s a proper workhorse of a reel and is absolutely built to last. Okay, it’s not smooth like your modern, featherweight reels, which are more like something from NASA rather than a fishing-tackle company, but that’s part of the allure.

You can see what he means by that. The Tournament is rugged, reliable and, if we’re all honest, most men would like one. Imagine now a Defender in black, with tinted windows! Now wearing it’s stealthy dark cloak, the Tournament Black has an aura, a presence, and an attitude that no other reel can match.  I love it. (MC)I once spoke about this to my mate Stephen McCaveny at Daiwa and he described it thus: “If the Basia is the Rolls-Royce of carp reels, then the Tournament is the Land Rover Defender.”
