Sonik Gravity X Spod And Marker Rods

To match the impressive Gravity X range of rods, Sonik has introduced one of each of the utility rods and they both appear, at first inspection, to be well up to the task.

I’ve not had the chance to really put them through their paces, but a few casts on a local lake have provided me with at least a first impression and, I must say, they feel spot-on.
Both boast a clean crisp action, with the spod rod obviously being the beefier. In fact, it’s so beefy that I had to load a spod right up to feel like I was properly compressing it, but bear in mind that I do not consider myself a huge caster.
I particularly like the fact that the marker rod doesn’t boast too soft a tip. I’ve never understood why any company would put a soft tip in a rod that’s designed to transmit as much feel as possible back through the blank. Thankfully Sonik hasn’t done so and the rod is a far better performer for that.
The finish is in keeping with the Gravity rods themselves because they’re nicely understated and boast a pleasing carbon wrap. The technology behind these rods includes a super-grade carbon material, which I could bore you with the science of, but basically translates to a powerful blank without the need for thick walls or oversized diameters.
As with the Gravity X fishing rods, these are not cheap, but they are a cut above a lot of spod and marker rods out there in lower price brackets. (MC)
