For almost a decade the Warrior range of rods has been among the best-selling budget carp rods in the world, with the most recent addition being the Warrior S.
It’s often said that if you buy cheap you buy twice but, trust us on this, with these you won’t. They look, feel and perform way above their retail price and, to put more emphasis on this point, none other than TC regular Ian ‘Chilly’ Chillcott uses the 2.75lb Warrior S for plenty of his fishing. To add even further to this commendation, the TC readers also voted the Warrior S the ‘Best Rod Under £100’ in the Total Carp Tackle Awards 2012.

Now, Kent Tackle has produced a tweaked version, the KTS, which is aimed at those who like to fish at range without breaking the bank. So what makes the KTS so special? The standard Warrior S is available in a range of test curves and lengths but the KTSs are a development of the medium-to-long-range-casting-oriented rods. The addition of 50mm butt rings on the 3lb and 3.5lb versions, and making them both 12ft, were key. Not only does this increase casting distance with nylon lines, it was also done in mind of fluorocarbon users because the increased butt-ring diameter reduces ‘frapping’.

The red decals are also a nice touch to the aesthetics because they complement the matt-black finish of the rods nicely. One other neat little detail is the gunsmoke butt cap, which is laser-etched with the Fox logo. Performance-enhancing features include the highly acclaimed Fox SLIK guides, a low-resin, super-lightweight carbon blank and an 18mm DPS reel seat boasting a reinforced steel collar screw to ensure a reel fits snugly. If you fancy a new set of chucking rods at bargain prices, these are definitely a safe bet.
