50% off discount sale until end of May. Popular Leicester store Carp Catchers, in Market Harborough, has announced its closure. The news comes as the lease on the current premises is due to expire. Owners, Angela and John Tai explained: "We have had a very enjoyable six-year spell, which has seen us meet some great people, but all good things must come to an end, and the lapsing of our lease is a natural way out for us.
Anglers unite against cancer. Two matches
have been announced, to raise money for the cancer charity, Race For
Life. In particular, the events are raising money for Claire Penning – the wife of Ben Penning, the brother of carp expert Adam – who is suffering
from a terminal illness. The cost for each match is £20 and all money will go to the fund set up by Ben.
54lb 12oz monster caught 14 years after original capture. Tim Cosens enjoyed the session of his lifetime on this weekend's trip to Kent's Strawberry Fields Fishery, after banking a 54lb 12oz common carp. Remarkably, he captured the same fish some 14 years earlier, when it weighed 26lb. The monster was caught from Kent's Strawberry Fields Lake.
String of quality fish for Taska rod. Kieran Panchal enjoyed some great sport at Birds Green Top Lake, taking four good fish, the best being a pristine 23lb mirror. The Taska-backed rod explained: “I arrived early to an almost empty lake, with only one more angler present. I decided to set up in a swim that fishes very well at this time of year, around the riverbank side of the island, after hearing that this was the swim that was doing most of the damage over the past few weeks.
Due to the wild nature of many places that I fish, this extending landing-net handle has done me no end of favours, usually on high, steep banks and where there is a lot of marginal vegetation. It’s also a big edge when netting fish hooked on long zigs. The length adjusts far more than others I have seen, with the total extended length a whopping 12 feet. Best of all, it stays rigid enough to make sure it’s not awkward to use.
When I first saw this line, and noting immediately the price compared with many others, I wasn’t sure how good it could be when it costs so little, relatively. Well, the first few uses immediately dispelled any concerns and it continues to perform well. Good knot strength and abrasion resistance are coupled with a decent diameter. I use the 17lb at short range on a local club water and it’s absolutely spot-on.
I doubted, at first, the need for a coated braid that was now stiff, given their initial intended use for forming stiff/supple combi links. However, from an anti-tangle point of view this stuff is spot-on. It’s supple enough to provide good presentation but it never tangles, even on casts over 100 yards. It’s user-friendly and the coating strips easily without failing in spots where you don’t want it to.
When half a dozen new Enterprise products made their way back from The Big One Show and were deposited on our editor’s desk, he noted a few nice additions to the range, but nothing that immediately stood out. However, when he and TC’s Max Hendry looked more closely, and took a few products from their packaging, they were struck by one in particular – the Hybrid Boilies. The more they played around with them, the more they realised that there would be a fight over who got to keep the packet that they’d received!Inside each pack are eight barrel-shaped, 10mm wafter baits, Frank Warwick’s Fruit Juice variety in this case, along with the Hybrids themselves. These resemble artificial boilies that have been bored out completely through the middle and there are yellow, pink, orange and white versions supplied.
