Bait giant backs top fishery. Somerset’s famous bagging Mecca, Viaduct Fishery, has teamed up with bait giant Bait-Tech. The popular southwest venue, famed for its huge catches of big, hard-fighting carp and colossal bags of silver fish, will now be known as Bait-Tech Viaduct Fishery, with the immediate launch of an ongoing sponsorship programme. Angling world mourns as Kev Green passes away. The angling world is in mourning following the news that Kev Green, a top angling journalist and former editor of Improve Your Coarse Fishing magazine, has lost his battle with cancer. Kev, 40, was one of the best respected angling journalists of his generation, starring in several books and DVDs alongside his editorial work. Close friend Dave Harrell paid tribute to Kev on his Facebook page: "It is with great sadness that I must report the passing away of Kevin Green, a man who will be known to many thousands of people as the editor of Improve Your Coarse Fishing.

Richie Lofthouse banks syndicate special. Richie Lofthouse has been enjoying a prolific run of form on his Essex syndicate recently, banking a pristine 31lb 10oz mirror carp. The fish, which is regarded as one of the venue's most revered fish, fell to a naked chod rig, while Richie was enjoying a night session at the venue. MPs' warning to water companies over sex-changing chemicals in rivers. The Angling Trust is urging water companies to remove gender-bending chemicals from waste water before they enter our rivers, backing a hard-hitting report put forward by MPs. Angling Trust chief executive Mark Lloyd said: “I am delighted that this all-party select committee backs what the Trust has been calling for over the past few years. “There is mounting evidence that these endocrine-disruptor chemicals make fish change sex, can poison aquatic organisms and damage ecosystems.

Broughton thinks a closed-season review is unlikely. Experienced fisheries management consultant Dr Bruno Broughton has added his opinion to the ongoing close-season debate. An expert in his field, Bruno is familiar with most of the arguments for and against a coarse fish close season. He explained: “The 93-day closure on rivers is an approximation to cover the span of breeding times for most coarse fish in most years, from early spawners (such as pike) to late spawners (notably tench and carp).

Karl Jenkinson reflects on a very rewarding weekend. The elusive carp of a local farm pond are all I have been able think about lately. Over a two-week period I visited the lake five or six times after work to apply some bait and build up knowledge of the fish behaviour. Having only had seven carp over 50 nights’ fishing, it was imperative that I did my homework.
