James Pierce reflects on the capture of the famous Wellington Ulcer. After joining Wellington Country Park last June, I discovered that you were able to book a five night session once a year at the venue. With this in mind and knowing all about the spring at Wellington, I aimed to book my session for sometime around the end of April or beginning of May, depending on what was available. Back at the beginning of the year, I received a call to say that Monday May 6th would be the start date of my trip, so I was pretty happy with that indeed.

Dennis Hellings reflect on a hectic week in FranceTaska ace Dennis Hellings enjoyed a session to remember last week, after banking a succession of French carp - with the biggest ranging between 37lb and 47lb!Dennis explained: "Every year I go around three times to France with my good friend Koen De Ruysscher, targetting a large public lake in the north of France. When we arrived, things didn’t look good because there were almost no catches reported, but with the weather changing in the right direction and warmer temperatures moving in, we were still optimistic. The first night I bagged one fish. Luckily it was a nice 37lb 9oz mirror, and not a bad start to the trip! We continued baiting up all the area’s with small boilies -and eventually our perseverance paid dividends.

Pleasure angler lands 18lb beast on fine tackle!Although an 18lb 2oz carp may not be a particularly big fish by the usual standards of top Milton Keynes venue, Furzton Lake, this monster carp was pretty remarkable - as pleasure angler Rob Wilkinson landed it on a size 16 hook and a light waggler rod!The battle took more than 30 minutes, before Rob Nursaw (who took the picture) could finally net the fish. Unfortunately for 74 year old Rob, who suffers with a chronic bad back, he is still paying the consequences of his exertions with severe back pain, but as his smile shows, he feels it was well worth it!. . .
