Not to be missed event sees two of carping's big stars visit Norfolk tackle super store. Fox-backed carp stars Tom Maker and Mark Pitchers are to host a not-to-be-missed open day in Norfolk this weekend.   The guys will be at the Angling Direct tackle store in Norwich for a superb day that will see the two big fish gurus reveal tactics, thinking and tackle that will help you put more fish on the bank.   Running from around 10am through until the store closes at 6pm, the angling master class will see detailed rig construction, advice on bait and a question and answer session.

Country's heaviest specimen banked at a whopping 62lb. At 62lb on the nose, this huge specimen is the biggest known carp in the UK, and its latest trip to the bank left it’s captor ‘completely stunned’. South East angler Danny Harmer caught the fish, known as the ‘Big Girl’, during a four-day session at Kent’s Elphicks Fisheries, targeting the specimen’s of the venue’s North Lake. Along with eight mates Danny booked the entire water for the session, and he took the opportunity to make the most of the exclusivity of the trip.

Trio of forties head up frantic action on venue's day-ticket water. Oxfordshire’s Richworth Linear Fisheries is a venue on top form at the moment – and this week it’s been Manor Farm Lake’s turn to shine. Three different 40lb specimens have been banked on the day-ticket water over the past seven days, with this 44lb specimen topping the action. Weighing in at 44lb 5oz, the big mirror, known as Sticky Rib, was caught by Wirral-based angler Colin Ogormon who set himself a new personal best with the catch.

Previously unknown gravel pit stunner banked at Midlands fishery. Leicestershire has a new 40lb carp on the radar, following the capture of a previously unknow fish from a gravel pit fishery. The stunning looking 40lb 2oz mirror was captured from Celtic Lakes Frisby near Asfordby by the venue’s tackle shop manager Mark Slade during an impromptu overnight session on the complex’s Sailing Lake. “I’d been watching a few fish right in the corner of the lake by the sailing club for the last couple of days and I was desperate to get on them,“ said Mark.

Question: Having caught a decent amount of sizeable carp i would like to think i treat them well after landing. They are weighed and photographed quickly and returned to the water, usually within 2 minutes. Some of the videos and clips on you tube, featuring very high profile carp heads, show the fish to be on the bank for longer than i feel comfortable with. What, in your opinion would be a safe time to have a fish out of the water?
