Question: I'm fishing my clubs most pressured lake 16 acres. I asked around and heard pre-baiting selected spots isn't worth doing, what is the best approach when applying freebies in my case? Tom Dicker via e-mailTotal Carp editor Marc Coulson says: Nonsense! I have never been to a lake yet where pre-baiting didn’t work. In fact, it’s probably one of the the very best tactics there is for catching carp – provided you can get away with doing it. I suspect that whoever has told you that pre-baiting does not work is doing so as they don’t want you to do it, ie they don;t want you catching the carp!If you can find an area of a lake that you can apply even a small amount of bait to over a period of weeks then you will attract carp to this area.

Fish were coming out, 10 catfish from 20lb to 77lb and carp to 28lb also the sturgeons 22lb to 55lb were landed but I didn't even get a run. I was using pellets from 18mm to 35mm boilies cell active 8 and nothing. Have you got any tips to how to fish this place.

Big name in tackle retail on the hunt for a new team member. Fishing superstore Hinders has announced it is looking to recruit a brand new member of staff to join its successful team. Based in Swindon, the company – which retails a huge range of carp bait and tackle, including its own range of bait – is looking for a new Retail Operations Manager to oversee its retail operations team. Hinders, which has been in business for the past 80 years, is ideally looking for candidates with at least 5years retail management experience, and an interest in fishing would be hugely beneficial.

Fishery best common set by big specimen - with a little help from Total Carp magazine. The record common for one of the Midland’s best-known, day-ticket carp venues has been smashed by a fish of over 41lb – thanks to a little help from Total Carp!Weighing in at 41lb 5oz, the impressive fish was banked earlier this week from The Monument in Shropshire. Caught by Wirral angler Jay Kelly, the specimen finished off an amazing 36hour session that saw the trainee engineer break his personal best no less than three times, with Jay admitting he couldn’t have done it without his latest copy of Total Carp. “I caught the fish not long before we were all going to pack up and head home,” Jay told TC.

Well, it's been a while since I did my last blog. We've been getting steadily busier in the TC office and I hadn't really given it a thought! Anyway, in my last one I detailed an encounter with a somewhat disagreeable landowner. I'd been unknowingly preparing a small piece of his overgrown 'garden', for a spring assault on the carp living in the stretch of river below. After weeks of hard work doing recces from my small inflatable boat, plumbing it, and baiting it up, I was left licking my wounds after a right earbashing.

Since my last blog life has been a bit hectic to say the least. First of all I am pleased to say that after a surprise approach from carbon and stainless giants Century I am now working on a part time basis for the company in a media development capacity. This role will see me undertaking a very similar role to the one that I already perform for Baitcraft by overseeing all of the companies social media exploits as well as creating a new YouTube channel, heading customer open days, shows and my usual writing and magazine features. It’s a great opportunity for me and one that I am very much looking forward to getting my teeth in to.

Question: I have bad knees and ankles but love my fishing but I need to cut my kit down how do I do this please as its starting to hurt me now to go and I love my fishing? Vanessa Warner via e-mailHi VanessaThanks for your email via the Total Carp websiteThe simplest way of cutting down your gear is to go fishing on two or three occasions and make a note of the actual tackle and suchlike that you use. You will soon find that a lot of what you take you never actually use, so therefore can start to look at going without. Soon enough you will be able to cut your gear down to a minimumI hope that helpsMarc. .
