Country's heaviest specimen banked at a whopping 62lb.
At 62lb on the nose, this huge specimen is the biggest known carp in the UK, and its latest trip to the bank left it’s captor ‘completely stunned’.

South East angler Danny Harmer caught the fish, known as the ‘Big Girl’, during a four-day session at Kent’s Elphicks Fisheries, targeting the specimen’s of the venue’s North Lake.

Along with eight mates Danny booked the entire water for the session, and he took the opportunity to make the most of the exclusivity of the trip. Taking his time on the first day, the self-employed builder leading around to find a rpime spot, eventually finding a clean area at the bottom of a drop off towards the middle of the lake in 10feet of water. Over this Andy tightly spodded in a couple of kilos of particles – pellets, hemp and maize with a good helping of crushed up Mainline Cell boilies – and set his traps.

Quiet for the first two nights, Danny continued introducing his mix in the same quantity ever day, over which he present a single 15mm Cell bottom bait – an approach that eventually paid off, and then some.

“At around 10am on the Sunday I had a screaming run,” Danny told Total Carp. “I started playing the fish, which felt good, but just swam straight towards me before diving deep as it reached the bank.”

Not realising the size of the fish he was attached to, it was half an hour before he saw the tail end of the specimen – at which point the enormity of the catch hit him.

“My mates saw the tail and said it was a good fish and I was just hoping it was going to be my first 40, but then one of the guys said it was the big fish in the lake and then the adrenalin really kicked in,” continued Danny.

Eventually the fish came to the net without incident, leaving the 26-year-old with not only a smashed personal best almost doubling his 33lb pb, but also as one a very small band of anglers that can boast the capture of an English 60pounder.

“I could not believe it, I was just completely stunned,” added Danny. “To be honest I’d actually forgotten there was s fish of this size in the lake, it was just an immense fish, so wide and so heavy it was difficult picking it up.
