Trakker Tempest Insect Panels

As a Tempest brolly user I have only ever had one slight gripe and that was the open front allowing all manner of flying critters to swarm inside for cover.

I’m sure I am not alone in this and in response, Trakker has produced these Insect Panels which clip effortlessly on to the Tempest frame and have proven an absolute godsend.

I attach mine as soon as I set the Tempest up, not giving the mozzies and their mates any time to descend. I will add here that it’s also important to use a groundsheet if you are going to really eradicate them because many flies and suchlike will come up out of the grass in the evening. That said, without a groundsheet the Insect Panel still keeps out most bugs, just not necessarily all.

From the outside the panel provides privacy in that it’s not overly easy to see through. However, from inside looking out the view is clear. Despite the fact that it is mesh (so essentially as much gap as material) it does increase the internal temperature and humidity, in my experience, but this isn’t anywhere near as much as if you had a full panel attached.

The process of clipping on the mesh panel is quick and simple and I needed no instructions whatsoever. It must be simple then, I hear you cry! It’s also future-proofed because three ports allow the addition of the soon-to-be-released Skull Caps, which are reviewed exclusively elsewhere in these pages.

I use the mesh on my Tempest brolly but there are versions that fit all of the various Tempest models and if you own any of these bivvies then I’d absolutely recommend one.

Marc Coulson’s verdict - A brilliant addition to my Tempest, I don’t fish without it now. 5/5
