Out Of Harm's Way

Question: When fishing my lake I like to keep my lines pinned down with the use of back leads. However, what can I do to keep my line out of harm’s way when fishing the margins and close in? Ollie Hobson, via www.totalcarpmagazine.com

Marc Coulson says: Like you, I love to fish the margins, especially in summer when the carp frequent the close-in spots on a regular basis. I have found that the best way to keep my line concealed is to use a fluorocarbon main line and fish with it nice and slack. Slack-line fishing can sometimes cause problems with bite indication, but because you are fishing the near margin (so most fish are going to bolt away from you) it isn’t an issue in these circumstances.
You don’t have to use fluorocarbon, you can just use a decent, sinking mono, but I am increasingly using it in my fishing and am absolutely sold on it.
