We have all used quick-change swivels of some variety and to great effect, being handy to change rigs in no time at all.
However, taking it one step further, the team at Korda has developed the same principle with a crook rather than the conventional elongated eye. Now this may not seem like much, and by no means think we are trying to blow it out of proportion.
However, this helps you fish hook links straight off the swivel quickly and with much more movement.
It’s always a pleasure making my annual trip to the ESP headquarters in Oxfordshire, but when I headed down there earlier this year it was with a particular feeling of anticipation.
I I was champing at the bit to see its three big product launches, namely the Onyx reels, Barrel bobbins and these Cryogen hooks.
ESP has, for me, always produced superb hooks in patterns that are useful to carp anglers. They were, as far as I remember, the first to introduce odd sizing (3, 5, 7), which many companies have followed suit in more recently.
I owned one of the original Rig Safes but found it a bit bulky. However, Korda’s newer versions are spot-on. One of these is the Mini Rig Safe Combo and I can’t wait to fill this one with a few rigs of my own.
We love this!
The smaller size, compared with the bigger Rig Safe, which has also been redesigned, is ideal for storing shorter rigs, up to eight inches, and will hold 30 at a time.
I’m sure any angler would agree that when it comes to weighing your prize catch you want a reliable set of scales to ensure the highest level of accuracy.
I have used Reuben scales for as long as I can remember. Starting off with the entry-level Flyweight Mk2 scales, I have worked my way up to the Specimen Hunter Classic. Brought back into production in 2011, this model boasts the original dial configuration and beta light pointer illumination of the 1988 model.
A friend who I carp fish with, and who is as fussy as me when it comes to mono lines, has been using this for a little while and absolutely loves it. So, when it came to reviewing it here, I was keen to find out for myself what it was all about.
Another ringing endorsement was that when I spoke to Gardner, I was told that the 15lb had, at the time, completely sold out! Fortunately, we already had a spool in the office.
On the rods, the line behaves perfectly, sinking really well, casting as well as you’d expect from a 15lb line and feeling a lot less stretchy than some.
I first saw these on a trip up to Trakker and was struck by them. They weren’t launched then, but have been now, and they’re well worth checking out.
Available in three sizes, each boasts a sturdy construction, webbed carry loop and internal Velcro dividers, which, especially in the two larger sizes, can be moved around to suit your needs.
What makes these different, however, is the clear lids and end section.

Following the popularity of the first release we were quick to see what changes had been made in the newer variations.
The tap system has been revised and to make the containers more user friendly when in transit and storage the tap now screws on internally and can be simply screwed on top when you arrive at your swim or need to use the container.
The tap also allows more control and results in a fluid water flow, ideal for helping to conserve water when on the bank for longer sessions.
Constructed from durable HDPE, these containers are rugged and set to endure plenty of bankside abuse.

This is a purpose-built solution for all those fiddly rigs that don’t currently have a home; yes we’re talking long zig and curved chod rigs.
Supplied with six discs – two of each size of large, medium and small – as well as 18 pins to ensure your rigs stay in place in perfect condition.
The largest of the three discs is ideal for use with zig rigs, with a measured diameter of six inches, so two wraps around and that’s a foot.
The smaller of the discs, which suits chod rigs, can also be used to help you steam the perfect curve time and time again.
Being able to manoeuvre your baits into inaccessible places can sometimes be the difference between a bite and a blank and, in this 12m pole, Cygnet has come up with the perfect way to do so.
Obviously it only works at short range (up to 12 metres) but for poking bait and rigs under marginal bushes or even discreetly doing the same to a canal far bank, this is ideal.
The pole is similar to one that would be used by the match angling fraternity, but it features a sturdy thread at the tip end, to which the spoon section screws on. This large spoon has been designed with a flat base in the bottom part of the ‘bowl’, making it a lot steadier when shipping out.
