Having studied fisheries management at both college and uni, I have spent many an hour in waders, from heavy-duty ones with steel boots to the more lightweight PVC variety.

When I received a message from Chris at Vass telling me about the new 305 breathable waders, I was a little sceptical that they would be bringing to the market an item that would be measurably different from the rest. That was until I wore them, and wow!

I was ignorant to the concept of something being waterproof and breathable, but having worn these for over six hours at a time I know exactly what it means.

The Vass-Tex 305 material is not only superiorly waterproof but it boasts breathable qualities that prevented me sweating and made my wearing experience a lot more pleasurable. They’re ideal for anglers who are in and out of the water for any length of time.

As far as durability goes, the 25mm ultra-bonded seams and reinforced knees have maintained their structure and durability despite constant use and, if Chris doesn’t mind me saying, plenty of abuse.

A few anglers have seen me using these and they’ve all asked how I get the waders to sit over the boots while retaining the boots’ shape and making them easier to jump in and out off.

Well that’s not down to me knowing how to fold them. It is simply the tried-and-tested Vass boots that are integrated into the waders.

The wide calf on the boots lend themselves fantastically to remaining upright, unlike the neoprene sock that is used on most breathable waders.

A few more features that I feel are important to mention are the front chest pocket, both internal and external, which, as you would expect, are waterproof, making it a doddle to carry spare PVA sticks, mobile phone and suchlike without the risk of ruining them.

I’m impressed with these and with the waist belt, chest drawcord and adjustable straps, they are not comfortable and fit perfectly. (DM)
