With the trend for sharpening hooks, we often argue in the office as to whether, when you’re paying £3 to £5 a packet, you sould have to sharpen them. Well the arrival of the new Kodex Genomic Wide Gape hooks settled our debate; no they do not need sharpening – only after you have banked several fish, of course. With a Micro-Ground finish and chemically edged process that each hook has been subjected to, the ever so slightly leaning point is super-fine, incredibly sharp and wow does it take hold quickly – and that’s just in my hand. I mentioned it slightly leans as opposed to it being a fully fledged beaked point that can alter the hooking potential in certain rig presentations.

ECTOPLASM £8. 99 This brand-new, pungent bait soak comes in five colour and flavour variations and can be used to increase the attraction of your hook baits. Soak into the baits a little at a time and, when in the water, your hook baits ooze a cloudy trail of attractions for hours at a time. They absolutely stink, the colours are bright and they’re great value for money.

It’s that time of year when the fish spend most of their time in the upper layers, but how can you present a hook bait there inconspicuously? This incredibly fine yet strong hook link may just be the answer. The Lo-Viz fluorocrystal characteristics make it virtually undetectable underwater, making it a fantastic material for both surface fishing rigs and of course the zig rig. With a minimal diameter of 0. 25mm this hook link breaks at a very respectable 12.

Gone are the days when fishing glasses made you look like an extra from The Fly, as carp anglers in particular have become more fashion conscious in every aspect of their apparel. These polarised sunglasses come in four styles, each of which would not look out of place when worn casually, yet they boast excellent-quality lenses that offer that polarisation and UV protection. There are three versions, namely the Classics, Wraps and Aviators, and there are a variety of frame and lens combinations. Each looks the part and will appeal to anglers with differing individual tastes.

Spooling up your two or three reels can often be expensive, with companies setting to produce the toughest, thinnest and most highly advanced line on the carp market, but is it really needed? Especially when it costs you between £30 and £50 a spool! The team of dedicated anglers at Korda saw this trend and decided to throw caution to the wind and produce a product that does exactly what it says on the tin. Carp Line is a no-nonsense carp monofilament main line with a tough and reliable list of characteristics. Available in 8lb, 10lb, 12lb, 15lb and 20lb, it can safely handle weed beds, snags, mussel beds and other underwater hazards you may come across. Boasting a subtle SUB-green coloration, Carp Line sinks surprisingly well and improves the more you actually use it.

The super-compact rig storage system is exactly that. With a capacity to hold up to 60 rigs at any one time, it offers vast space for such a compact size, making it a mobile angler’s dream. Ingeniously, a curved recess allows rigs with a shrink-tube kicker to be stored with little to no detriment to the angle of the kicker, keeping the rig in tiptop condition ready for that all-important moment. The Rig Safe comes complete with 30 single pins and an added 15 double pins, which allow you to store pre-tied rigs that you haven’t determined the length of with ease.

This has been one of those products that we in the TC and ACF offices have been eager to get our hands on and, when one finally arrived, I was just glad that the box came addressed to me! The construction and quality is extremely sturdy and the twin magnets in each corner keep the closure secure. Inside there is ample room to contain plenty of chod rigs, both short and longer versions fitting into the relevant sections. The storage ‘bin’ is removable and the centre of it can be pushed through to create a handle for safe steaming of lines using the rounded profile. Inside this handle there’s even a compartment to store the supplied pins.
