Marc says: I was once a massive fan of the 360 rig, after seeing the inventor, Dave Lane, use it to such good effect on numerous features several years ago. Back then it was tied using the controversial, long, curved-shank hook, which for safety reasons I would never consider using. I had one or two instances of this pattern causing damage, particularly to smaller fish, which I was not prepared to accept, so I literally chopped up my entire supply.

Today I use the 360 on occasion, although I’m still wary if there are numbers of small fish present. However, these days I use this hook, which Dave designed during his time with JRC. Like the rest of the Connect hooks, they’re ultra-sharp and very strong, but unlike the original long curved shank, they are infinitely more fish-friendly in my opinion. The dull MBT coating is excellent too.

My only slight bugbear is that I find the points do not last beyond one capture, so a change of rig is required every time. They’re not cheap, so some people might baulk at this. Sharp hooks mean more bites, though!

If you’re going to tie 360 rigs then use these hooks
