German angler banks two carp for over 110lb!Radical-Carp newcomer Tobias Krämer embarked on a night session on a large German gravel pit in the Ruhr area to test some new boilies for the 2014 season - and bagged a brace of giant carp. Krämer landed the first, a huge common carp of 25. 1 kg (55 lb 6oz), in the late afternoon using a Radical-Honey tiger nut topped with an artificial tiger nut over the area which he baited up before. The next morning brought another colossal common that tipped the scales at 27 kg (55 lb 9') after taking a 20mm Vampire Garlic test boilie.

Fish worth over £2,000 stolen from Midlands venue. The prolific Barston Lakes near Solihull is famous among specimen carp, and match anglers alike – and has a deserved reputation for being among the country’s most prolific fishing venues. However, last Thursday night it was the victim of a fish theft. Anglers who have visited the venue before cannot have failed to notice the clubhouse’s novel koi carp pond, which is housed in the giant ornamental fountain at the front of the club house.

International conference to increase participation. Representatives from six European countries gathered in London over the past two days to discuss how to increase the numbers of young people going fishing, at a conference hosted on behalf of the European Anglers’ Alliance. Angling has been shown to be highly beneficial for the development of young people and provides opportunities for them to learn a wide range of skills. It is also an excellent way for people of different ages to share an experience in the great outdoors, to encourage greater communication between the generations and facilitate more contact with nature for young people.

Angling's health benefits acknowledged in national press. Coverage in The Guardian newspaper to about a scheme in Newcastle-upon-Tyne which involved GPs prescribing fishing as a tonic for patients suffering from stress and depression has been welcomed by anglers. The article explains how angling is one of several activities which can be recommended by Doctors as a "social prescription". Innovation charity Nesta has found that a majority of GPs are keen to find alternative ways of improving patients' health and wellbeing without dishing out more and more medicines.

Friendly trip yields fish to 60lb 12oz. Danny Fairbrass has been out to the fantastic Gigantica Lake, in France, this time taking some of his closest friends with him. Eight accomplished anglers ventured through the Eurotunnel, hoping for an autumn monster. The weather was certainly in their favour through the week, reaching 16 degrees in the day and dropping to seven degrees at night; it looked good for a big hit.

Avid ace does day ticket double. During a three-night stint on Linear Fisheries’ St John’s Lake, Avid ace Chris Lowe managed two of the most sought after day-ticket carp in the country when he banked The Small Plated at 43lb 3oz and The Box Common at 39lb 4oz. When he turned up at the beginning of his session, Chris decided not to put any bait out and just tried to nick a bite. However, nothing happened for the first couple of hours, so he started spodding out regularly with Sonubaits Hemp ‘N’ Corn, pellets, crushed tiger nuts, maggots and Code Red shelf-life boilies.

'Secret Tactic' yields rich rewards!Matt Jackson’s recent roll of success continues and there’s a secret tactic behind it!The Korda backed ace explained: “It seems that the run of luck that started on my first trip back to the big pit has continued. In the last three trips back I have now managed six fish in total, including another two 40lb plus mirrors and a 38lb common. So that’s mirrors of 30lb, 37lb, 41lb, 41lb 8oz and 43lb 8oz and a common of 38lb in three weeks fishing! Considering the lake is still rammed out and only one or two other guys have even caught in the last three weeks it makes the result even more satisfying. Since the first fish I have changed the approach slightly to compete with the pressure and hopefully give myself an edge over the other anglers.
