Having spent years watching our colleagues on the match and pole fishing magazines wearing Halkun Hunt’s clothing, I longed for the brand to launch into the carp market. The thing is, it was in no rush to produce green versions of the excellent kit, which featured Gore-Tex linings – the number-one waterproof and breathable fabric. Then, eventually, and exclusively to Yorkshire Carp, the green range was born and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a test set. A year on and that set is my go-to clothing in any even remotely inclement weather conditions throughout the year.

It’s that time again when all the fair-weather anglers say farewell to the bank and head to the warmth of their living rooms. However, for you guys brave enough to face the weather, we’ll let you into a little secret and a suit that will make your fishing even more pleasurable. Chub has managed to produce an all-weather suit that won’t break the bank but doesn’t compromise on quality. It consists of a jacket, trousers and fleece and offers a fantastic amount of protection from the harsh winter winds and the rain that we so regularly receive.

Although bait boats aren’t for everyone, they have been around for a while and have accounted for some huge captures of fish. Waverunner has developed the Mk3 over a number of years to produce a bait boat loaded with features and backed up with impeccable performance. The boat features a chunky heavy-duty handle, making it easier to get in and out of the water. Four independent LEDs provide an efficient and effective battery meter that can be seen from long distances.

Okay, there’s only so much you can say about PVA cord (or string, if you prefer) but like anything in fishing I am very fussy in what I use, right down to the tiniest detail. I’m no stranger to fishing PVA stringers of three to five baits over a spread of boilies but I’m particular about what PVA I use to do so. It’s a similar story when it comes to tying off solid PVA bags. Tape stretches and some strings are not robust enough.

The successor to the Tournament 5000, which achieved cult status and continues to appeal to many anglers, the Entoh brought a new wave of technology to the top-end-reel market when first launched. Now, the latest incarnation, the 5000QDA, takes what is an already brilliant performer to a new level altogether. It’s not just about the sultry new matt-black body either, although this is in keeping with modern trends as reels move towards this stealthy look and away from the ‘bling’ of silvers and gunmetal greys. It’s packed full of Daiwa’s leading features, including AirBail, Twistbuster, Infinite Anti-Reverse; boasts a HardBodyz construction for longevity and generally has a feeling of quality build and reliability.
