The February issue of Total Carp is now on sale!
The nights are getting shorter! The winter solstice is behind us and on its way to being a distant memory; as you read this it will be even further in the past and dare I say, spring is very nearly around the corner, a few more weeks and signs of life will begin to appear as everything begins a new start and a new cycle. Whilst we wait for that, where weeks may seem like months there are still chances to be taken – you can’t catch them at home.
The winter, whilst it can be bleak, can often be a very beautiful time of year to be out. As the February issue was in production most lakes had a lid on them but onwards we marched and a great issue is still at hand with Oz Holness talking about the forces that drive him to achieve what he sets out to, Dave Lane hangs up his rods briefly and becomes a crane banksman, Oli Davies goes full Eurobanx and takes us to a fruitful trip over to the Continent, Tom Loraine returns to put a positive spin on winter and all the joys it holds for him, while we headed out with Ian Russell on a Troubleshooter to the lovely Waterside Fishery – a venue that has an extremely high chance of claiming the British record this year!
My star feature has to be Brad Reidy this month, a lad you may not have heard of; he’s not in the spotlight and this will be his first magazine feature, he’s just a roofer who loves angling and what a way to start – not one, not two, but three Norton Disney 40-pounders in a matter of weeks with loads of back-up fish. Solid angling from an everyday angler, things we absolutely love to see!
Get your teeth into the February issue, it’s a blinder!
TOP PICKS
Troubleshooter
Our good friend Ian Russell pulled it out the bag earlier this month down at Waterside Fishery, as he always does! A beautiful double-row linear in absolutely Baltic conditions is our cover shot this month – this man can catch a carp any place, any time!
Big Carp Mindset
Whilst Mark Holmes takes a short break, BCM writer Simon Crow threw us a bonus feature this month and what a feature it is – double length, action packed with plenty of big carp, ups and downs and the ultimate prize.
Eureka Moments
Follow us as we take a look inside the mind of angling’s ‘Mr Nice Guy’, he shares his top six Eureka Moments that over the years have made him stop and think: “Hang on, this is working”. There’s no denying Spooner’s track record for catching not just big carp, but carp in general. If you want to fish just like he does, then get your teeth into this!
The Joy Of Winter Carp Angling
Tom speaks about something this month that we all need to hear, the joy of winter angling! If you can’t find enjoyment in it then you will no doubt question your reasoning; as much as it can be fruitful it can also be gruelling at times but you have to read between the lines and see the beauty in it. Sounds all philosophical until you see the depths of snow he had to push his barrow in!
