I wrote a piece a few years ago bemoaning the fact that there were no truly outstanding waterproofs produced by tackle companies. I understood why, our market generally doesn’t suffer the prices that the outdoor pursuits folk do, so there was always a limit as to what could be produced within any budgetary range.

With a waterproof and breathable rating similar to some of the real top-end stuff in the outdoor market, it feels so much more than just an outer, waterproof suit.Last year, however, I started using a set of ESP’s Super Grade clothing and it was an absolute revelation. A year on and it’s still going strong. Nevertheless, I have been convinced to ‘upgrade’ to this year’s version.

Despite it being lightweight and only lightly insulated (it works best with layers underneath) it is brilliant at keeping any chills out, especially the salopettes protecting that vulnerable lumber area. It’s also ridiculously waterproof – and I mean absolutely waterproof – yet still comfortable and breathable.

I honestly cannot speak highly enough of this clothing and, while the suit represents a more significant investment than most in our market, never is there a better example of getting what you pay for than here. (MC)
