TOTAL CARP IS HIRING!

Want a job that puts you right in the middle of the carp fishing scene? Well, we’ve got an unmissable job opportunity at TOTAL CARP – the chance to become the magazine’s new EDITOR!

That’s right, we are looking for a talented individual who has a deep understanding and love of carp fishing to take the reins here at Total Carp. After six successful years, our current editor Matt is stepping down and so we are looking for someone to take his place and continue to make Total Carp the nation’s favourite carp fishing magazine.

Total Carp as a brand has gone from strength to strength, and alongside the magazine, which is at the core of what we do, we also now have a thriving digital media presence, including an ever-expanding YouTube page, plus successful social media coverage. Alongside delivering the core magazine, the new editor will be responsible for overseeing the output of these digital aspects too.

We are ideally looking for the candidate to start immediately and work alongside Matt in the team, giving us the opportunity to offer training for a seamless transition. There are also opportunities for restructuring within the team, with potential for the role and responsibilities to be split between multiple candidates.

Interested? Make sure to email your CV and cover letter to [email protected].

For now, here are a few details to get your teeth into…

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the delivery of editorial content for the magazine, including features and gear reviews, ensuring print deadlines are met in a timely manner.
  • Plan and organise on-page and digital output of Total Carp, ensuring desirable, current and interesting content in every issue.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders including the internal DHP Staff, freelance team, contributors and advertisers.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce in-house features in the Total Carp style, including photography and/or written feature text.
  • Photograph and review new and current fishing tackle items.
  • Produce video content for the Total Carp YouTube channel. This may include both videography of anglers on features, as well as presenting review and technical videos.

ABOUT YOU – ESSENTIAL

  • You must love and have an in-depth knowledge of carp fishing – as editor and the face of the magazine, you will need to know what you’re talking about and be in touch with the current state of affairs.
  • You are self-motivated and want to put your stamp on things. You’re responsible for your own workload and schedule, and endeavour to get the job done in time for print.
  • You are professional and dedicated to the role. This job puts you right in the centre of the carp fishing scene; it’s certainly got its perks and can be lots of fun, but getting the work done is always the utmost priority.
  • You are organised and adaptable. No two days are the same in a month at Total Carp and there isn’t necessarily a set structure to your week. This makes the role enjoyable and varied, but also challenging, so good organisational skills are essential.
  • Feature writing will be a core part of the job and therefore good writing skills is essential. However, we do have a brilliant sub-editor who carefully checks and corrects the text, so there’s no need to be a literary geek!
  • Photography is also a big part of the role; this makes the magazine look brilliant and helps to deliver the meaning of the content.

DESIRABLE, BUT NOT ESSENTIAL

  • Videography and video editing skills are highly desirable, helping to deliver content for the YouTube channel.
  • Confidence in presenting in front of camera, explaining technical information and talking about fishing tackle for video reviews.
  • You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk? Being a good angler and able to deliver your own content for the magazine would be a useful bonus.
