The design of these indicator arms is simplicity itself, with a simple rubberised section fitting over either the hockey stick at one end or housing the bobbin thread at the other. I have to confess that I do not use Cygnet ‘hockey sticks’ because my hangers screw directly into my buzz bars, but I solve this with the addition of a converter thread, which Cygnet sells for very little money. Back to the arms themselves and there are two lengths available, namely 4in and 6in, the former being my preference. The rubber section offers some flexibility but they remain extremely stable in windy conditions, surprisingly so in fact.

As a big-pit angler, I’m always mucking around on the boat or in my waders looking for that special spot, so I was the best candidate to test the new Cygnet Prodding Stick. What I first liked was its lightweight design and the fact that it floats. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly and easily it was to recognise the difference in the bottom substrate. Each section is clearly marked in 1ft increments to give you an accurate depth and it attaches by a screw thread, which is easy to do, even with cold and wet hands.

The Quicklock is so named because the front legs can be folded away with minimum fuss thanks to the neat folding mechanism. It’s a ‘twist and lock’ system where the legs slot into grooves on a rotating cylinder. Essentially, you turn the wheel until the grooves align, then the legs can be folded out. Stability sits high on the list of design credentials.

When a rod pod is too much but banksticks simply won’t do, what you need is the Specialist tripod. It houses three fully adjustable legs that extend from 30 to 58 centimetres but will also accommodate the outer section of any Cygnet Specialist storm poles for a much greater level of elevation. Weighing a very modest 400g this is a ridiculously lightweight product that’s been designed with stability and versatility firmly in mind. This is the perfect item for either fishing on hard surfaces, roving situations and offers you the ability to take awesome self-take shots with the addition of a camera adaptor.

TC reader Greg Pittam says: "I don’t fish waters with any really big carp in but holding dial scales with my thumb, even on double-figure carp, is still a bit of a pain. This problem has been solved with the use of this weigh bar and now weighing carp of any size is a doddle. "There are chunky foam-type handles for comfort and the karabina-type clip secures the scales in place. "Lifting the carp and sling is now effortless and I get no shaking anymore, so it’s also easier to get a correct reading.
