Bartropp's winter campaign starts in style as new bait fools a forty. Top carper Leon Bartropp had a dream start to his winter campaign recently with the capture of this 41lb 7oz specimen on his very first trip. Targeting a new water, the sales manager at Sticky Baits settled into a swim for maiden winter session, placing his baits near a small island. Field-testing a new boilie from Sticky, Leon set down a bed of feed over an area of dark silt, before presenting the 16mm bait blowback snowman rig style using a 12mm Buchu Berry popup on top.

Total Carp regular changes tactics to bring him a new personal best from Linear. Avid Carp consultant and Total Carp regular Ian Russell has big reason to celebrate, after landing a new PB during a recent session on Oxfordshire’s Linear complex. Fishing the venue’s Manor Farm Lake, carp coach Ian banked one of the water’s top fish known as Spike at 44lb 2oz – breaking his previous best by 8oz. The capture, which Ian was ‘overjoyed’ at, came following a change of tactics, which the 50-year-old saw as key to the result.

Les Graviers' most famous resident, The Scar Fish, comes to the bank. The world’s biggest carp, the Scar Fish from France’s Les Graviers, has been banked, but at a weight 7lb lighter than its record-breaking biggest. Caught by Northampton angler Mark Ryder, the mighty fish still sent the scales hurtling round to 92lb, a weight that keeps it in the top three heaviest known carp on the planet. Mark, who is a bailiff at Daventry’s Drayton reservoir, still very nearly made the history books though, after hooking into another fish of an estimated 80lb – a specimen if landed that would have seen him take the world's heaviest ever brace of carp.
