With more anglers fishing overnight sessions, and longer, we’re all looking to make our trips as comfortable as possible. One way of doing this is by eating and drinking well and for that you need decent equipment. There is a plethora of cooking kit available to the modern carp angler, both from tackle companies and specialist outdoor retailers, but few collections are as comprehensive as this new Tukka stuff from Vision. There’s literally everything you need here, and more.

The addition of a coloured topper to a hook bait is undoubtedly effective and these stops from Avid combine that with the hair stop. I only started using them when Avid produced the buoyant version. If I have a ‘sighter’ on the bait then I want it sat proud so that the carp can actually see it!The large versions are ideal for tipping a trimmed, barrel-shaped hook bait; something that I use a lot inside bags. So far they’ve worked, particularly the yellow ones, and I like the fact that they sit nice and flush with the baits once the small ‘hook’ is drawn inside.

When asked if I could review these syrups it was a no-brainer. After all, I’ve been using them since the first ones were launched several years ago. These days the New Grange is the one that’s used most in my carp fishing because I use that variety of boilies a lot and the addition of the syrup to particles, and even pellets, helps me create a total baiting attack. The syrups are packed with attractors and improve the profile of any particle mix.

Designed to be true all-rounders, I can confirm that they are exactly this, and brilliant at it too. I’ve been using the 2. 75lb versions and, excluding fishing at 100 yards plus, I can’t think of any reason why I would not continue to do so. The progressive, through action is right up my street and it makes for an exhilarating fight every time a carp is hooked.

I’d never used a two-man bivvy before, so when I was asked to test-review this one from Vision I was intrigued. I’ve seen some two-man bivvies in use and they always struck me as far too big. Thanks to the aluminium components and compact shape when in the bag, it’s surprisingly easy to handle and wasn’t as cumbersome as I suspected. Once erected, I was pleasantly surprised that although it has a two-man capacity it is not overly big.

Dave Lane banks three pit monsters. Angling consultant Dave Lane has this week proved why he is right at the top of his game- after banking the three biggest carp in a Northamptonshire pit in the space of a fortnight. The biggest of the trio- the 45lb leather carp shown here in the picture is a new PB for the Mainline backed ace- though he has caught bigger mirror and common carp, including three UK fish over 50lb!“Its lovely when things go your way, and a combination of factors have helped me to land this special brace of fish over the last couple of weeks. The fish in this particular lake have spawned three times this year, making them extra hungry, especially now the water is starting to cool off.

Splash Baits consultant Mark Lane has just returned from his first ever trip to France’s Abbey Lakes, where he enjoyed a trip to remember…I had pre planned my trip to Abbey Lakes in Northern France some months ago, and had specifically chosen this venue for a number of reasons. I have been concentrating my angling at home on a challenging syndicate water that offers up stunning carp to the angler who puts in the effort and is confident in fishing into the weed. After two successful seasons on Velocity's Silverwood lake, I had decided that if a France trip was on the cards, I would like to fish a water that offered a similar challenge with conditions comparable to what I had honed my skills on. Abbey's Heron lake looked to fit the bill perfectly being a 35 acre gin clear pit, weedy and inhabited with stunning dark carp averaging 30lb+ with a good head of 50's, 60's and even a 80 known as the mighty "Shoulders".

Top tackle on display at trade shows. On September 5th we attended the Trakker and Cygnet trade show. We saw all manner of new products that will be hitting the shelves of your tackle shop in the very near future. We were impressed by the new Cayman bivvy, available in one and two-man sizes, the two-man is massive and easily big enough for two people, great for a week abroad or for those of you who like longer sessions in comfort on the bank in the UK.

13 year old banks monster French carp and catfish. To many 13 year olds, the idea of spending a week sat at the side of a lake would seem very unappealing- but not to Brigg teenager Ben Hunt. While many lads of his age are dragged along fishing with there parents, with Ben it is the other way round- he has to talk his dad, who isn’t an angler into taking him fishing! On a recent trip to France, Bens commitment and obvious talent paid off in grand style, after he banked several fish that even a seasoned specimen hunter would be proud of. The Brigg based teenager takes up the story: “ When we got to Etang Tissier (the fishery) I had a good talk to the owner, who told me that it hadn’t been fished for two weeks, which I felt could be a very good sign! The first day passed and I was beginning to doubt it though, as I had no fish! My first run came at 6am on the Sunday morning, but unfortunately I lost it when it went round a clump of rushes.
