With winter on our doorstep do not worry if you only have a light sleeping bag system – a three or four-season. You don’t have to rush out and buy a new one, simply add the thermal bedchair cover to your wish list. Constructed using a waterproof and durable Armatek outer fabric and cosy warm fleece lining, it can be used as a standalone cover throughout the warmer months, even when sleeping under the stars, while being the perfect conversion tool to expand the life of your existing sleeping bag. Long side skirts allow you to gain maximum coverage over your bedchair while reducing any cold draughts.

Designed with the mobile angler in mind, this 40-litre-capacity rucksack has been manufactured utilising the robust and durable 50D polyester fabric. Each of the six double-zipped pockets boasts heavy-duty zips and pullers, allowing for safe storage of a variety of tackle items. A high-density, comfortable, padded harness and adjustable straps mean that even when loaded with gear the rucksack is comfortable to wear, which is essential when carrying your gear around on your back. The main compartment also boasts a PVC-backed rain flap to help keep your essentials dry should the weather take a turn for the worse.

It’s easy to become a little cynical when reviewing as much fishing tackle as and Dan and I do. Immunity to manufacturers’ wild claims about this product or that is not uncommon. We make our own minds up about products in a bid to help you make the correct buying decision. Most tackle is of a decent standard these days, but by the same token it takes quite a bit for me to really get excited about a particular item.

Designed to truly be one chair to suit all situations, the Combi is exactly that. It’s a well-dimensioned chair with plenty of padding and support in all the right places. Even with as what you might politely call a bigger frame like mine, it’s plenty comfortable. Fold the rear leg and it converts to one of those chairs that can sit on your bedchair (what exactly do they call those, anyway?) and it works really well in this guise.

This was probably the one item that caught my eye before the others, purely because it’s Trakker’s first foray into the wader market, and I’d say the boys up there have nailed it. Well made, lightweight and very easy to get on and off quickly, they tick all the boxes for the modern carp angler, more of whom seem to own and use ‘chesties’ these days. Adjustable, elasticated straps complete with Trakker detailing and twin, adjustable waist straps mean the perfect fit is easily achieved, while the PVA boot is rugged but flexible at the same time. Each pair also comes with a dedicated air-drying carry bag.

The name of this great luggage item does it no justice because it’s really so much more than just for keeping PVA in. I’ve had one of the smaller versions for some time and use it to store all manner of items, but this bigger one is exactly the size that I prefer. In fact, I reckon I can probably fit all of my terminal tackle, PVA, leads and extras needed for all but the longest sessions. This is an absolute winner and proof positive that the best products don’t always need to be the big stuff.

Trakker is back! The old Trakker Armo suit sold in its hundreds, with its combination of multi-functional garments with amazing value for money. Now, several years on, Trakker has launched the latest in clothing offering similar, but this one is on a totally different level. It looks absolutely superb, with two shades of green, the Trakker logo and some great red-contrast detailing. Functionally it impresses too, with the trousers and jacket combining to offer a relatively lightweight waterproof suit and then the additional fleece jacket that zips in to add yet another level of insulation.

Designed with the trend for more fashionable styling in angling sunglasses in mind, these will appeal to the image-conscious carp angler. Available in two colourways – brown lens/brown frame and grey lens/charcoal frame – they boast an appearance that is a far cry from the old polarised glasses that many of us used to use. Scratch resistant, TAC polarised lenses offer clear viewing through even choppy water, removing much of the reflection from the water’s surface. They also offer UV400 protection and come complete with EVA case and cleaning cloth.

We’ve chosen six at random to see what they’re all about… GROUP TEST | Another new series in TC, Group Test is about giving you the right information on a small range of similar products. By choosing six of each per month, we can keep the information relevant and we hope to offer a variety of models each time. First up are pods, still hugely popular items with TC readers that we haven’t looked as for a while. We took six from a variety of manutacturers and put each one through its paces.
