Harvey Chamberlain's Blog Part Three
My first trip back to my syndicate lake in Reading. I managed to arrive at the lake for 7pm and got set up just before dark. I was set up in the swim called the Bay. I have fished this particular swim in the past, and have had a few nice originals, some lovely old cracking fish.
Started off the session with 1kg of Carp Company natural impact boilies, these are a must in the summer. Straight away I lost two due to the heavy weed. I changed my approach by incorporating the new Nash drop off chod system. This way I knew my lead would come off and the fish would be straight to the surface, avoiding all the weed. I introduced some more freebies using the spod when the seagulls were about, and the Korda easy stick when they weren't, just to get a nice scattering of bait in the area. My next take came, and the fish bolted to the top, and I managed to play it all the way in on the surface. After returning this beauty, it was time to get some bait out before the night was slowly drawing in.
I had a few fish in the night - some lovely 20's. Early that morning I scattered some more bait into the swim, I wanted to keep the bait going in to keep the fish in the area. Throughout the day the fish kept coming, I was so overwhelmed as I had never done this before on this venue, it was just crazy!
Just before the second night was drawing in, I heavily baited the area with boilies scattered everywhere, I love this form of fishing. Shortly after the rods were in position and the bait was out, they screamed off with one being a 33lb 2oz Mirror. This was a absolute cracker!
I had another screamer as it got light, and was landing every fish after I changed my approach. There's always something you can do to make you land more carp.
I baited up again before it was light to avoid the seagulls, and this was the morning that I had to pack up, so I made sure I got the bait in early. Just before I started packing away, I had another carp, this one went 22lb. After unhooking this fish, I got the rod straight back out. It screamed off again, this was a wood carving of a fish, a 32lb 12oz common. The best session by far in the UK.
In total I had 11 takes, lost 2, landed 9.
7 20's to 29lb 8oz
2 30,s to 33lb 2oz
This was an incredible session, and I was just so overwhelmed that after changing my set up from losing two to landing every one. Find your spots in the weed where you can easily present a bait, and get a scrattering of boilies out. Job done.
