An Awesome Brace
Avid ace does day ticket double.
During a three-night stint on Linear Fisheries’ St John’s Lake, Avid ace Chris Lowe managed two of the most sought after day-ticket carp in the country when he banked The Small Plated at 43lb 3oz and The Box Common at 39lb 4oz.
When he turned up at the beginning of his session, Chris decided not to put any bait out and just tried to nick a bite. However, nothing happened for the first couple of hours, so he started spodding out regularly with Sonubaits Hemp ‘N’ Corn, pellets, crushed tiger nuts, maggots and Code Red shelf-life boilies.
Chris continued to spod throughout the night and went on to land five fish from seven takes, including a 25lb common and a 32lb common. All the fish were landed on Code Red pop-ups fished just off the bottom on his favourite Reset Rig.
The following day was relatively quite, so Chris concentrated on topping up the swim and getting his rigs bang on for the following night. That evening, after a cracking fight, he landed the incredible Small Plated. As expected, the following day was quiet once again but, knowing that it was night time action, Chris continued to work the swim. That night only two fish tripped up to his pop-up rig, but one of them was the notorious Box Common at 39lb 4oz.
Chris used pop-up rigs made from 15lb Captive Coated Hooklink and size 8 CRV hooks. He fished all three of his rods in light blanket weed at 70yds range.
