Launched in early 2015, the M3 Compact was designed to offer all of the performance and features of the hugely popular M3, but with a slightly more compact design to appeal to those who wanted something a little less substantial in dimension. It bridges the gap perfectly and it is, as we said above, one of our favourites.

Boasting the impressive Aquatexx fabric for maximum protection with breathability, it stands up to the harshest conditions and condensation proves nothing of a foe. Plus, the simple two-rib design makes for extremely quick erection and packing away. Weight is also kept to a minimum and the poles are made from pre-formed aluminium for strength and lightness combined.

The Compact also boasts that all-important front peak, although it is fully removable for those occasions when you don’t need it. As with the M3, the removable infill boasts standard and mozzie options and there are also rear vents for those steamy summer trips. If you’ve never used a bivvy with rear vents before it is a game changer, with the improved air circulation making for far more comfortable conditions inside.

Don’t be fooled by thinking that the Compact is too small, though. The footprint is drastically reduced compared with its bigger cousin, but there is still ample room inside for most anglers’ kit, unless you’re the ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ type. Most conventional-sized bivvies provide more space than you ever need, so the Compact will fit the bill for many of you reading this. Take it from us, this is a serious bit of kit and whoever wins it is going to be the envy of many in the TC office!
