Top Venue Takes Steps Against Thefts

Police hand out advice to anglers to combat latest wave of tackle robberies.

Following a spate of tackle thefts across the country one of the UK's busiest day-ticket carp waters has taken steps to educate anglers in protecting their kit.

The staff at Oxfordshire’s Richworth Linear Fisheries, which has suffered from a number of thefts in recent months, have joined forces with Thames Valley Police to provide advice on such areas as micro-dotting tackle, as well as the basics on preventing the theft of valuable items in the first place.

Although already operating tight security with patrols running on-site throughout the night, Linear’s head bailiff Roy Parsons told Total Carp he’s pleased to see the police at the venue giving anglers the advice they need to make sure their tackle is as safe as it can be.

“We’re more than happy to have Thames Valley Police onsite and onside to help our anglers protect their tackle,” said Roy. “We’ve had loads of officers here talking to carpers, along with a mobile police station and patrol cars. It’s great to see the police taking an interest after the recent wave of tackle thefts we’ve seen at waters around the country.”

The visit to Linear by Thames Valley Police was held during a charity event attended by some of the country’s best-known carp anglers. Among them was Ian ‘Chilly’ Chillcott who had nothing but praise for the initiative.

“Getting the police on site to talk to the anglers was an excellent idea and goes a massive way to help us all deter thieves and protect out tackle which no one wants to lose. Both the guys at Linear and Thames Valley police should be praised for their efforts which I support 100 percent.”
