Teenage Angler Found Dead In Lake

16 year old found face down in the water.
Tribute have been paid to a 16-year-old boy who tragically died last weekend during a fishing trip.

David Moss was found face down in Moreton Fisheries, near Congleton, on Saturday afternoon, by his mum, Dawn and despite best efforts he could not be revived.

Fishery manager, Chris, explained: “All of the staff here at the fishery are obviously devastated by what has happened. David and his friends were all regulars, and were extremely popular, well behaved lads.

This is the first time that David has visited the fishery on its own, which makes it all the more tragic. We cannot be sure exactly what caused his death until the coroners report is published.

As soon as we heard that David had been found my son in law and I ran across to try and help. We tried to perform CPR until the ambulance arrived, but sadly it was to no avail. My thoughts are with the poor lads family- all of us here at the fishery are deeply affected by what has happened.”

David was a member of the Carp Crusaders – a Facebook group made up of keen carp anglers.

Its founder member, Billy Cosford, has started raising money in David's name after hearing about his death.

Mr Cosford, aged 33, from Essex, said: "David was one of the first people to join the group and I remember chats we had and pictures he sent in of himself, happy as can be, with a stunning fish that he had managed to catch.

"The tragic news has hit the group hard, so I decided to start a fund for his family. Hopefully it will help them in some small way."

Family liaison officers are supporting David's parents, Stephen and Dawn, and his brother Robert.

Teachers and pupils at Biddulph High School, where David had been a pupil, also paid tribute to the teenager.

Headteacher Thomas Abbott said: "We are shocked and saddened by David’s death. He was an extremely popular, happy student."
