The Tackle Box’s Lee Jackson says: Simple and very effective way of keeping line tidy on a spool. Nothing can be more annoying sometimes than line spilling off the spool and then getting tangled with almost anything that it comes into contact with. These bands fit most commonly used spools and simply attach to the spool similarly to how you would attach an elastic band. The end of the line passes through a bead and then can by dispensed by pulling the end of the line or pushing the bead round with your fingers to wind it back onto the spool.

I love this combination of bobbin head and cord and it literally covers all scenarios with the exception, maybe, of when fishing in high winds. There are two lengths of cord available and I have used both, but favour the shorter one. With Cygnet’s Kippa Clips I can fish slack or tight lines at a variety of heights, so I find the shorter ones ample. If you’re really into ultra-slack-line fishing, which I’m not, then you might prefer the longer cords.

Let me begin by saying that I have only been using this on and off for two months and by no means am I claiming to be an expert in the technology this device utilises. However, that said, it is insanely cool and equally, if not more, practical than it may first appear. So what is it? It’s a small, compact and completely portable fish-finding device that also relays depths, substrate and temperature straight back to your hand-held device, which in my case was my Android smartphone. Firstly I was surprised at how easy it was to set up.

The Tackle Box’s Lee Jackson says: This is an ideal piece of kit to have in your tackle bag for cleaning up spots quickly to make bait presentation more efficient. Measuring 9. 5 centimetres wide, weighing in at 31/4oz and with five spikes on either side, this weed rake is ideal for dragging up low-lying weed, bottom debris and generally cleaning up spots of rotting leaves, dead weed and suchlike. Although its weight dictates that it can be easily cast using the average carp rod with 12 to 15lb main line, bearing in mind the weight of the weed that is sometimes being dragged in, it is more advisable to use a rod with a higher test curve, such as a spod rod, and in conjunction with braided main line around 30lb breaking strain.

LEE JACKSON SAYS: When I first saw this product at the Korda trade show I must admit to thinking that it was the simplest, most innovative and best new product on show. Apart from when I’ve used an adjustable zig, it’s always been a bit of a bugbear of mine avoiding getting the hook/hook bait snagged up in the undergrowth, on the ground or ending up casting out with a leaf or twig impaled on my hook. The clue’s in the name I suppose – a hook hooks into things! Prior to the Zig Magnet coming out I’d always placed my hook bait in a cup or suchlike prior to casting, which is sometimes a bit hit and miss. There’s no need now, though, because this clever yet simple invention can be screwed onto a bankstick, adjusted to the required height and has a swivelling magnetic disc on the top for holding the hook off the ground prior to casting.

There is no disputing that Costa knows a thing or two when it comes to quality sunglasses and these are exactly that. With superior lenses and stylish frame to match, the Fantail Camo 580 is the cream of the crop. Finished with a Realtree frame and bright orange Costa logo, the frame prevents light ingress from the sides, which often impairs your vision. Boasting small rubber grips on the arms help to keep them planted to your head when wondering around on the bank.

From dumpy pears, Hex distance, grippers to minute pink back leads, yes you heard me, pink back leads, Donk Leadz do them all. With the aim to offer a service to meet the angler’s needs no matter if you are fishing a lowland estate lake or highly pressured gravel pit, they do have a coating to suit. We have seen several versions of the craftsmanship and we are very impressed indeed, especially with the weed effect and peat versions, which look like they will easily take on liquids and substrate colour. The dark swivels are a nice addition to finish the lead off and, although some may say it’s pedantic, it’s my preference to be as subtle as possible.

The Tackle Box’s Lee Jackson says: It’s nice to see this product back on the market because it makes stripping line from spools child’s play. Designed to be used in conjunction with a cordless drill, simply tie the line to be stripped to it, squeeze the trigger on the drill and away you go. Another nice feature is that once the line is stripped, simply untwist the cap and the old. LEE JACKSON’s VERDICT “An inventive solution that makes that dreaded job of spooling up so much easier.

As with any angler I obviously bait up, whether I am in the boat, wading down the margins, or using a throwing stick, one piece of kit that has made my life easier is the Skorpion Bait Pouch. With a generous capacity of over 2kg of boilies, depending on size of course, the pouch fits comfortably around my waist leaving both hands free for either quicker loading or for lowering my rig. Even when walking around I still have it on me; a catapult in the elasticated slot, a few boilies in the bag and I can happily bait my way around the lake with a view to returning and checking the spots. A Velcro’d removable liner makes it easy to clean or equally separate baits if you need to.

The full name for these is Last Meter Safety Clip QC Link Hollow Leaders, which is a bit of a mouthful, but explains what they are. There are different leader versions available and one of two other variations but this is the one I’ve had a play with. The leader sinks slowly, settling nicely over bottom debris, and the lead clips work well. The pack also includes anti-tangle sleeves for the rig and even small link loops to attach the end of the rig.
