If wellingtons aren’t really your thing and you much prefer a boot, do not fear – the Fieldman Boot is here. Made from real full-grain leather and a Vibram Trek rubber sole, the Hydroguard membrane means these boots are waterproof yet breathable. The 200gms insulation will keep your feet warm while minimising the dreaded sweat. However, if you do suffer from smelly or sweaty feet, the boots have been treated with an Agion antimicrobial solution for odour resistance.

It’s fine being warm, but you need to be dry too, which is why we selected this next product because we believe it is perfect for those heavy downpours associated with the lovely low-pressure systems we will be looking out for. Lightweight and breathable, the jacket boasts a Taslon nylon material with mesh lining. As you would expect, each pocket features a weatherproof zip to keep your personal contents dry. The hood can be removed if preferred while benefiting from a top adjuster and elastic drawcord for a snug waterproof fit.

We still believe wellies have a place in carp fishing, allowing you to access the margins with ease, rove through the long grass and not worry about any puddles when pushing your barrow. We wanted a welly that was warm as well as waterproof, and with a 3mm neoprene lining the Countryman retains your heat even when you are no longer on the move. To get them on and off with ease, they boast a full-length waterproof gusset complete with top-quality YKK zip. A sturdy and rugged rubber sole means you won’t be slipping and sliding all over the bank, and the kick heel means you can get them off without having to pull down on your muddy heel.

The Tactical Elite Jacket is of alightweight nature and has the ability to remain water resistant while retaining a very stashable size means this item would be great for anyone who likes to travel light and take the minimum amount of kit, but we’d not recommend it for heavy winter downpours. Five external pockets allow you to keep everything at hand while the stashaway hood, which is inside the collar, enables you to keep one step ahead of the weather. Underarm zips allow you to maintain a comfortable internal temperature; great for when you’re on the move. Available in Camo and Titanium from small to XXL, we are sure this is going to be a hit.

Among some of the thickest and most padded stuff we’ve had in for ages, this oozes a feel of warmth and insulation. Trakker labels the filling as ‘medium’ weight, and this makes sense because it’s not restrictively heavy but it still feels extremely warm and comfortable. We have not had any real subzero temperatures yet, at least not as I write this shortly before Christmas, so there hasn’t been the chance to really test it to its limits. However, I’d be surprised, and more than a bit disappointed, if it wasn’t seriously warm.

Trakker is back! The old Trakker Armo suit sold in its hundreds, with its combination of multi-functional garments with amazing value for money. Now, several years on, Trakker has launched the latest in clothing offering similar, but this one is on a totally different level. It looks absolutely superb, with two shades of green, the Trakker logo and some great red-contrast detailing. Functionally it impresses too, with the trousers and jacket combining to offer a relatively lightweight waterproof suit and then the additional fleece jacket that zips in to add yet another level of insulation.

Getting cold is no fun. With clear, freezing nights, bitter winds and icy rain very much likely for the next few months, now is the time to wrap up. This new, all-encompassing, three-piece, multi-layer suit is the perfect system to keep you protected from the elements, so all you need to worry about is your fishing. With a 100 per cent polyester construction the suit boasts a heavyweight waterproof rating of 5,000mm on both the trousers and jacket.

With winter now set to take Britain hostage for the next few months, Trakker might have just the answer you’re looking for in its new line of Elements clothing. Firstly the jacket. When we tell you these retail at £99. 99 you might think that’s a little steep, but let me stop you right there.

This was probably the one item that caught my eye before the others, purely because it’s Trakker’s first foray into the wader market, and I’d say the boys up there have nailed it. Well made, lightweight and very easy to get on and off quickly, they tick all the boxes for the modern carp angler, more of whom seem to own and use ‘chesties’ these days. Adjustable, elasticated straps complete with Trakker detailing and twin, adjustable waist straps mean the perfect fit is easily achieved, while the PVA boot is rugged but flexible at the same time. Each pair also comes with a dedicated air-drying carry bag.

This new version of the classic Sherpa from Trakker is a little lighter than the original, but still boasts the thick-pill fleece outer and lined inner. The loss in weight makes it more comfortable and I would say it contributes to it not quite being as warm as its predecessor, but it’s still a great fleece jacket for the colder months. I also like the additional pocket on the arm; perfect for a phone. Marc CoulsonRRP: £59.
