I’ve been using this unique and interesting clip for approaching a year and I'm smitten. As well as a pair of conventional line clips, the centre of the body features spring-loaded ball bearings that the line can easily pull into. This combination gives multiple options in terms of the line’s tension. I’ve only felt the need to use it in either the clip or the ball bearings, never both, but it can be done if you want.

We take a look at the range of hooks from Reuben Heaton, the only ones on the market using surgically sharpened technology. TroKar uses special and proprietary high-carbon steel called Q741. This unique blend was specially created for the hook range. (RS) Magnum Wide Gape £TBC On first impressions these hooks are extremely sharp; in fact, every one out the packet is sticky sharp.

£3. 95 per pack of 10 The guys at ESP have been hard at it with the latest release of the Grip Rigger, Curve Shank and Para Point Cryogen hooks. These are the latest impressive additions to the extensive range being made through original cryogenic tempering. The Curve Shank is still in keeping with the same classic ESP Raptor curve pattern.

Swept-shank, straight-point hooks, which are a firm favourite with many top anglers. As used in this month’s Outside The Box feature with Kev Hewitt. Super-sharp points and Teflon-type coating combined with the pattern make this hook a superb all-rounder. £3.

Although there are so many alternatives these days, I must admit to still being a fan of leadcore. I don’t honestly think that using it has ever cost me a bite, so I’m in no rush to switch. There has always been an issue with safely setting up a helicopter rig so that the top bead is secure enough on the cast but will release the hook link in the event of a breakage. The Leadcore Stop Beads are designed specifically with this purpose in mind and they work brilliantly.

At the forefront of end-tackle design for many years, ESP continues to produce a wide range of extremely usable products, many of which offer a solution to the everyday problems faced by carp anglers. The most recent launch of new items includes the Chod Rig Sleeves, available in Camo Brown, Choddy Silt and Weedy Green, in packs of six. These are designed to keep your chod rig clear of the lead at the bottom of the leader when playing a carp. The inherent problem with a chod rig is that, without something above the lead, the rig slides right down the leader, potentially causing lost fish.

As an avid user of solid bags, I am aware of the need for a supple hook link that will act as naturally as possible. Sink Link is super-supple, allowing me to neatly pack it into a PVA bag. The inner fibres are woven nicely and there seems to be no problem with fraying when I cut it. I favoured the brown version for my bag rigs, yet like to use the green Sink Link as the supple section when tying combi rigs.
