Plans For The Monument

Owner of day-ticket venue reveals plans to dig new lake on site to double angling capacity for carpers.
One of the most popular day-ticket, big carp waters in the country has announced plans to add a brand new lake to its grounds in response to the overwhelming popularity of its fishing.

The Monument in Staffordshire has revealed that it is struggling to meet ever-increasing demand to fish its existing 8acre water, with anglers having to book in advance with waiting lists currently almost to the end of the year.

In response the man behind RH fisheries, the company that owns The Monument, Rob Hales, has put in place plans to double the fishery’s capacity with the construction of a brand new water set to open for anglers in 2014.

“We’ve done all the levels and the survey for the lake all ready, and we’re submitting for planning permission in a few weeks so if that goes well I see the diggers starting mark around December this year,” Said Rob. “The new lake will be slightly bigger than the existing water at 8.5acres, but it will have the same number of pegs at 15.

Stocking wise Rob already has hundreds of fish ready to go, with fish to 40lb planned to be introduced to the water once complete.

“We’ve got 100 fish between 16 and 20lb in the stock pond ready for the new water, another 120 at between 16 and 20lb that will be grown on,” continued Rob. “80 fish over 20lb that will be bought it and a dozen fish in the 35 to 40lb bracket also coming in, so there will be plenty of big specimens for anglers to target from the off.”

Rob has also revealed that he believes the new water could be even better for anglers than the original Monument water, thanks to the lessons he’s learned.

“We’ve learned a lot from The Monument, and this new water will benefit from that such as the inclusion of islands and underwater features that should give carpers plenty to go at,” he added.

With construction work planned to start at the end of the year, and leaving time for the fish to be stocked, groundwork to be done and the lake to mature, Rob is hopeful that the new water will be open to anglers in the summer of 2014.
