Iain McMillan enjoys best season ever.
Dynamite Baits-backed ace Iain McMillan has built on what he considers to be his best season ever – by banking a giant 52lb 4oz mirror from Wellington Country Park. 

Iain has been experiencing one of his best seasons ever, landing numerous fish over 35lb in recent weeks. It all started with a session at prolific carp water Farriers, where he landed a new PB for the water – a stunning 41lb common. That fish was joined by other fish, with the biggest going 35lb 2oz! All of his fish from Farriers fell to running chod setups baited with Dynamite Baits Fluoro ‘The Crave’ pop-ups, fished over a large bed of ‘The Crave’ bottom baits.

Already on a high, Iain moved on to another tricky stillwater in hope that his luck may continue. With the lake's largest resident having already been captured just prior to his arrival, his confidence was slightly knocked. His persistence paid off, however, and after moving a few times to stay on the fish he managed to put three on the bank topped by a cracking 36lb 8oz specimen!

It was at this point that Iain decided to move onto Wellington Country Park for his final spring on the venue before his ticket was up.

Knowing full well that the fish in the water showed a serious addiction to Dynamite Baits Monster Tigernut boilies, Iain didn’t have to think too much about what bait he was going to use,  simply saying: "If it isn’t broken, don’t try and fix it!"

To cut a long, fish-filled story short, Iain went on to bag a multitude of chunks, topped by three of the venue's 40lb-plus residents. These were a mirror of 40lb 2oz, an awesome-looking ghostie of 42lb 4oz and a fish known as ‘The Willow Fish’ at 44lb 12oz! As well as these beasts, mid-30s seemed to be going out of fashion as many other fish fell to the Shimano and ACE mans rods. Little did he know, though, what was about to happen next…

With his ticket coming to an end, Iain knew he only had one session left to try and bag one of the venue's largest residents. Over the next three days Iain moved from swim to swim trying desperately to put himself on the fish, but it just didn’t seem like they wanted to hang around. On the last day, however, he was handed a bit of a lifeline as the fish started to show in a small bay.

With the bay being vacant, he quickly set up and positioned one of his rods about 20 yards into it. The other rod was then cast out into open water. Later that day a steady take saw the start of a battle he’ll never forget. Instantly on hitting into the fish he knew he was in contact with one of the venue's massive residents, but which one?

As soon as the fish broke the surface it was quite clear that ‘The Turtle’ was the fish wallowing just on the other side of the spreader block – a true beast of a carp! Luckily, without too much drama, the monstrously framed fish slipped into the net first time.

On the scales, Iain recorded a new personal-best weight of 52lb 4oz – a true monster of a fish and what a way to say goodbye to the venue!
