Jamie Simpson enjoys great start to year.
Avid's Jamie Simpson kicked of his year in style, banking a cracking 25lb mirror on his first session of the year.

"I'd done a couple of sessions on The Monument in Shropshire before Christmas and, although I'd struggled a bit, I knew exactly where the carp were holding up for the winter. Every time I'd fished the lake, I'd seen carp showing in the same area time and time again."

Fortunately, on his latest trip to the popular day-ticket venue in Shroshire, Jamie managed to get in the swim where he wanted to be. With most of the fish being caught on maggots, Jamie was armed with a couple of pints of wrigglers. He opted for small PVA bags of maggots, light leads and 10lb monofilament hooklinks. The tactics certainly worked and, within a few hours of arriving at the lake, he banked a cracking 25lb mirror.

“I was made up with the capture and it really was a great way to kick off the year. I can’t wait to get back down to the lake to try and bag one of the numerous thirties.”
