No Disease At Horseshoe

Famous carp water to reopen following clean bill of health from scientists.

Tests on the fish of the famous Horseshoe Lake have been carried out following a spate of mystery deaths at the venue – with the results showing disease was not to blame.

Over 60 specimen carp are estimated to have inexplicably perished since spring, leading CEFAS scientist to conduct stringent virology tests to determine the cause.

However two rounds of examinations have come back negative of any trace of disease in the venue’s valuable stocks.

The results are a massive relieve for Horseshoe’s owners the Carp Society, who closed the venue to anglers last month until more information on the deaths could be established.

“It’s a big relief to know that disease was not to blame for the deaths of the fish, and we know that the CEFAS test are as stringent as they come,” David Manall, Director and Commercial Manager of the Carp Society told Total Carp. “The best news though is that we have not had a carp death on the lake for over 10 days now. We still don’t know what the problem was, but hopefully that will be the end of it.

“We chose to close Horseshoe as a precaution at the peak of the problem,” continued David. “And I’m pleased to say that now we know disease is not to blame we are reopening it to anglers, with the precautionary addition of dip tanks, on Wednesday September 14 from 9am.”
