More Wingham 40s

On form Southern Syndicate, produces another two 40lb Commons and enormous Eel.

Less than three weeks after Wingham Fishery' syndicate lake produced four different forties in as many days, there has been the capture of two more 40lb+ commons from the Canterbury gravel pit. Fishing at 90-yards range in the deepest part of the lake at 17ft, 34year old mechanic, Simon Ford saw a fish show at reasonable range and cast just a single hook bait to the area. Shortly after at 1.15pm, he hooked into a powerful fish which, after a heated battle, resulted in a 42lb 12oz common gracing his net.

Bizarrely, at the same time the next day he received another take, which also turned out to be a chunk, this time a mirror tipping the scales at over 34lb.

There was more big fish to slip up yet though, as the following dawn, well know fishing guide, 'Budgie' Burgess went on to land another stunning common of 43lb. Budgie admitted to be fishing for eels at the time but was elated with the capture, especially considering the relatively light gear he was using at the time. His session went from memorable to mind blowing hours later when he caught a true specimen of what he was targeting, an enormous Eel of 5lb 10oz. His PB and the Fishery's new Eel record fell to three Dendrabena worms popped-up 1.5ft in 8ft of water.
