North East big carp angler Les Marsh was out on the last day of 2012 and was rewarded with a cracking 31lb 4oz carp to end his year on a high.  

He explained: ‘I was sat watching TV on Saturday teatime, when the weather forecast came on. With good conditions expected, I just had to go fishing – especially after all the rain that we have been having lately! So off I went to a Yorkshire stillwater that I frequently fish.

The first night was quite chilly, nothing occured until the second night when a strong southerly wind got up. In four casts, I had three bream, followed by the big mirror.’

All the  fish fell to a Snowman Rig presented in conjunction with a Taska Line Aligner, Baseline Kwick Change Sinker and Silicone Rig Tubing. Hookbait  was a DNA S7 bottom bait with a pineapple and banana pop up.
