Lancs Carp Record Smashed

Massive common breaks county record as angler does his home work to target fish.

The biggest carp ever caught in Lancashire has been landed at a weight of 47lb 6oz.

Banked at Clitheore’s Pendle View Fishery, the fish known as Butt Head was captured by Scottish angler Adrian Blantford during a week-long session at the venue.

“I was working in Lancashire so instead of booking into a bed and breakfast I decided to book onto Pendle View for the week with the intention of catching Butt Head,” said an ecstatic Adrian. “I did my homework on where the fish had been caught from before so booked onto peg 34 and then also booked out the peg next to me so that I had plenty of water to go at for three rods.”

After finding a metre-square patch of gravel changing to silt at about 30yards range Adrian set his trap. The CCTV engineer fed 2kg of boilie on the spot before he went to work each morning, before fishing throughout the night – and it didn’t take long before he got results.

“I started on the Monday and by 7.45pm on the Tuesday I had the fish in the net,” continued Adrian. “There were plenty of fish over my swim and I’d already lost one big common that evening before I had a stutter take and hooked into something very solid.

“When I got it on the bank it filled my carp cradle. I knew it was a big fish, but I really didn’t expect my scales to spin round to 47lb 6oz. I was buzzing especially when I was told I now hold the lake and Lancashire record as well.”

Adrian tempted the record fish using Nash Monster Squid Black boilie on a Nash Fang Twister barbless hook to a 7inch N-Trap hooklink with a Solar Contour leader and lead clip.

The big common already held the record for the county at its previous best weight of 46lb 1oz after its capture by Paul Dundon earlier this year, with many now expect Butt Head to break the 50lb barrier in 2012.
