Tackle shop takes over carp lake management. Yateley Angling Centre has taken over as agent for the Yateley Pads Lake at the popular Hampshire complex. Bookings for the lake, which contains carp over 40lbs, will be managed via a dedicated page on the shops website. The announcement comes after five lakes at the complex have been taken over by a new manager, Martin Gardener.

My favourite hooks, Muggas, are now available in a beefed-up version, boasting 30 per cent stronger, high-carbon wire. I took some to France with me and have used them here at home too. Despite their thicker gauge they remain sharp and the covert coating is inconspicuous on the lake bed too. RRP: £4.

I’d never used any top-end big-pit reels before so was excited when asked to test this one for a few months. So far, that excitement has been well founded. It’s an out-and-out big-pit reel designed essentially for casting. I am not a huge caster but I’d definitely say that this Ultegra has added a few yards already.

I have a small car so space for gear is at a premium. However, despite its large capacity, the Trackta folds up into a surprisingly flat package. The assembly is quick and simple and takes just a minute to complete. Capacity is impressive, and when loaded correctly it’s both smooth and well balanced to push along the bank.
