When asked to test the Gardner Muggas it didn’t take long to report back – I have been using them for as long as I can remember. Whether I’m using the size 12 for zig fishing or the size 6 for bottom baits, I am 100 per cent confident in their hooking potential. With an inturned eye and a sweeping, curved shank, as soon as the hook link is straightened the hook flips and takes hold. The hook-holds have been confidence inspiring; they also don’t require the addition of shrink tubing to create an aggressive rig.

As an avid user of solid bags, I am aware of the need for a supple hook link that will act as naturally as possible. Sink Link is super-supple, allowing me to neatly pack it into a PVA bag. The inner fibres are woven nicely and there seems to be no problem with fraying when I cut it. I favoured the brown version for my bag rigs, yet like to use the green Sink Link as the supple section when tying combi rigs.

The fruity aroma of the Essential IB is fantastic and I’ve found it to be an instant bait on busy day-ticket waters. Although these are shelf-life baits, I appreciate the resealable packaging that helps keen them in tiptop condition. It also allows me to take home what I don’t use – waste not, want not!I have also used them on a local canal and enjoyed similar success. Because shelf-life baits are slightly firmer than freezer baits I also found them not to take on too much of the stinky, silty smell when using them on the turgid canal bottom.

Paw-Print mirror caught at 42-4-0Browns Angling's Purchasing Manager, Stewart Briars, enjoyed the session of a lifetime last weekend - after banking the famous Wraysbury Paw-Print at a weight of 42-4-0. Stewart netted the monster after fishing the notoriously tough water just four times - and was elated with his capture. He explained: "I know people who have fished Wraysbury for over a year without landing a carp, so to bank such a special fish on just my fourth trip was very special indeed. I boated out my hookbait, which was a Nash Scopex & Squid boilie on a chod rig, over around 50 freebies at a range of 150 yards.

Revolutionary new floating bite indicators to be won!Fishing stillwater margins with a float is normally a daytime method, but a newly launched product from Slater Angling could change that. Boss Conrad Slater has done some fieldwork on margin fishing at night and believes that his FyreFli floating electronic bite indicator might be the answer. It uses an LED to signal when a fish has taken the bait and is on the run. The fully self-contained, watertight unit has an in-built battery that can be recharged via a micro USB connector, which means that the angler can recharge the unit from a wide range of products such as phone and solar chargers or even a PC or laptop.

Korda man Wilson banks syndicate 40. Korda-backed ace Jim Wilson has continued his great run of recent form by banking another target fish. He explained: “I arrived at my syndicate water late on Monday evening, after making a short-notice decision to actually fish there. There were a couple of other lads plotted up around the pit and a swim giving access to shallower water really did look good.
