Day Ticket Monster Caught

One of the biggest carp of the season banked from Kent venue open to all.

One of the biggest carp in the country, and one of the largest caught this season, has been banked on a day-ticket water in Kent.

The fish - a giant of 58lb 12oz - was caught by angler Daniel West during a 48-hour session at Kent’s Elphicks Fisheries.

Known fondly as The Big Girl, the specimen fell for the 19-year-old Student’s boilie based approach which some him target a clean patch of ground between two island at 40 yards range on the venue’s North Lake.

Dan, who also works part-time at Blean Angling in Canterbury, was fishing the water for the first time, with the all important run coming at 2.30 in the afternoon.

“It’s the most violent take I have ever experienced, it just tore off,” Danny, who’s previous pb of 32lb was shattered by the capture, told Total Carp. “When I felt it pulling I thought I’d hooked into a good 40. About half-an-hour later when I had it in the net I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I’d seen photos of the fish before and as soon as I saw the single scale near the tail I knew I’d caught The Big Girl.”

Thought to be the biggest carp available to fish for on a day ticket in the country, the carp could well go even bigger this year, as Elphick Fisheries manager, Mark Pallet, explains:

“She was out two weeks ago at 57lb so she’s put on a pound since then meaning she’s properly on the munch,” said Mark. “This is the biggest weight she’s ever been caught at. She tends to come out a few times around this time of year and then disappears around November December time. But with this weather being all over the place she might come out a few more times this year and if she keeps eating, she could be even bigger.”

Dan fooled his fish by spodding 4kg of 18mm and 15mm Mainline Cell boilies over a large area. He then fished a leadclip system using a 15lb Jelly Wire hooklink to a size 6 Korda Kurve Shank barbless size 6 hook over the top, using a size 18mm Cell boilie as hook bait fished KD rig style.
