Catch Advice

Question:  Hi Total Carp, I went and done a 4 day trip to Crow Green Fishery in Brentwood, Essex and didn't catch. Fish were coming out, 10 catfish from 20lb to 77lb and carp to 28lb also the sturgeons 22lb to 55lb were landed but I didn't even get a run. I was using pellets from 18mm to 35mm boilies cell active 8 and nothing. Have you got any tips to how to fish this place. I really want to catch all 3 but never had a cat or sturgeon but my biggest carp is 19 and a half ghostie on bread on a float rod with 4lb line from Nupers Farm in Essex with my girl friend. Answer: I am afraid you’re probably asking the wrong guy about catching catfish and sturgeon. I am not a fan of either species and don’t even think they should be stocked into UK waters. The only piece of advice I can pass on is that cats love fishmeal baits. Try a big bed of really oily fishmeal pellets and fish some really big pellets over the top. You’ll need strong tackle mate, so don’t hold back with your hook links, hooks and main line. Good luck!
